As we get older we often find that our bodies aren’t working quite as well as they once did. One of the most common complaints I hear is people start to encounter problems with memory.

Many people experience memory loss, or a clouded memory. They are able to pin point those major events of their lives but when it comes to the finer details they just seem a bit hazy and distant.

I was quite suprized to learn that memory loss doesn’t just happen to those who are getting older. Memory loss can occur at any time of your life, even youngsters forget stuff. Sometimes in our busy every day schedules things just skip our minds from time to time.

One thing I find many people are forgetful about are birth days and they lose stuff like car keys, letters and things like that. Now where did I put them again?

When it only happens the odd time or two we tend to forget about it and just move on putting it down to being too busy at the time or something like that. However if it keeps happening it could indicate a problem needing deeper investigation.

Memory loss is a worry to people they first think they are losing their mind and feel awkward talking to others about it even their doctors. They would rather just forget about it and accept it without further thought on the matter as part of the old age process.

There are number of solutions to the problem of memory loss. Depending on the seriousness of the problem, the remedies can range from exercises to enhance your memory, to natural health supplements that help clear the mind or in some cases there could even be a need for prescription drugs from your doctor.

One approach some people find helps is to use some form of memory aid to remember important events. By writing things down it makes them easier to recall and refer to when the memory just needs a bit of a jolt.

This works for a number of reasons sometimes when we know we can refer back to clarify information we feel less pressure to remember it and recall it naturally. That’s why keeping a diary or journal often helps.

Many people have short term memory issues mine is with peoples names. I find that if I repeat their name several times it’s much easier to recall when I need to.I also try and imagine that person while saying their name.

Memory loss is a situation that can happen to anyone at any time. But using a few simple exercises you can build you memory back to what it once was. It’s a variation on the sort of memory games you might have played as a child.

The adult version may differ a slightly, but the idea works pretty much the same. Exercising the mind is much like exercising any other muscle within your body. If it’s not stimulated your memory won’t work as well as it did before and you will forget stuff.
