The Best Fly Fishing Spots In The World

If you aren’t out on the river, you’re probably thinking about it. When the mayflies are popping, nothing is better than a bit of fly fishing at your local spotor is there? Well, there is. If you have the money, there are 5 destinations around the world you have to hit.

This is, of course, my top 5 because I am the one writing the article. Everyone has different opinions, and I realize it. There is no need to send me emails with blazing commentary about how I must be mad to pick these 5!

1. The Big Horn River in Montana is one of the most productive spots you’ll find. Rainbows in the 15 inch range and an absolute huge population most years. Late July through the first two weeks of August are the best times to go for this great spot.

2. Mardi Gras in Brazil is legendary and so is a particular fishing spot - the Rio Negro. Peacock bass are the explosive fighting fish legendary for breaking rods. They are actually cichlid, but who is going to quibble. Late winter is the best time of the year.

3. Canada certainly has to be at the top of any list of top fly fishing spots and the Dean River is a worth destination. Jaw dropping scenery and steelhead are on the menu. This is the spot where people in the fly fishing industry go, so it is a must fish spot.

4. Argentina has much more to offer than epic steaks. Sea run brown trouts upwards of 20 pounds are found on the Rio Grande. The season runs from Christmas to March. Hmmmmaybe it’s time to take a different kind of winter vacation!

5. A personal favorite is Redding, California. The idea of there being good fly fishing in California may sound strange to some, but the small rivers around this area are a blast and uncrowded. Salmon, trout, bass are all on the menu to mention a few.

These may not represent your top 5, but I guarantee a few days at any of these locations will have you reevaluating your top 5 list. Give any of them a try and you will not regret the decision to do so.
