What Makes People Happy?
Marci Shimoff, author of “Chicken Soup for the Woman’s Soul”, “Chicken Soup for the Mother’s Soul”, “Happy for No Reason”, and contributing author of the highly successful book, “The Secret”, is one of the most successful self-help book authors for women.
Marci isn’t all about books, though. She never expected to be an author at all. She would rather speak, and has been on more than 500 radio and television shows, has written articles for popular magazines like “Ladies’ Home Journal” and “Woman’s World”, and has been interviewed for more than 100 newspapers.
Because of her interest in the motivation and development of others, Marci Shimoff co-founded and is a board member for the Transformational Leadership Council. The council so far has helped over 10 million people in the self-development market.
Marci has known since the 1970’s that she wanted to be a professional speaker. Back then, no one had ever heard of such a career. Who talks as a profession anyway? The doubts of others didn’t stop Marci from pursuing her passion, though. Even her parents supported her and told her to do whatever would make her happy.
Happiness isn’t found in success, as Marci would be quick to tell you. There are a lot of miserable people in the world who appear successful and perfect on the outside. Inside, they’re longing for more in life. Money isn’t the answer. Build success; build wealth, right? Build wealth; build happiness? Certainly not.
Fancy cars, jets, estate homes, and things like that are popular among rich people, but have you noticed how many of them are only happy when they use their money to help people rather than buy more “stuff”? Perhaps it’s because the “stuff” can be lost, stolen, broken, or destroyed. Benefits to society are a way to get the “pay it forward” ball rolling, though.
“Happy for No Reason” is a book that was born out of the misery of others. One statistic shows that of the people on the “Forbes Wealthiest People in America” list, 40% are less happy than average Americans. Obviously money isn’t the answer.
“I’ll be happy when…” also isn’t the answer. People who are always looking for outside fulfillment will never truly be happy. Those who are 100% satisfied are those whose happiness comes from within. They are people whose happiness comes for “no reason” at all.
