Diabetes can be the cause of some pretty serious health issues such as blindness, heart disease, and kidney failure. Insulin dependent patients suffer more severe effect of the disease as opposed to those diabetic patients that are non-insulin dependent.

Islet cells, found in our pancreas, secrete insulin. This insulin performs two major functions for our body. The foods that we eat get broken down into glucose, which our body will use for energy. Insulin helps to move this glucose, as well as fats and protein into cells that will produce energy. Insulin also lowers blood glucose levels, which rise as the glucose is released into the blood stream. Two different types of diabetes are Type 1diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. The difference between the two types is that patients with Type 1 diabetes cannot produce their own insulin and patients with Type 2 diabetes can produce insulin, however their bodies cannot effectively use it. It is hard to identify Type 2 diabetes in the early stages, so this form of the disease takes a toll on the body before it is ever diagnosed.

Treatment of Diabetes includes taking care of your diet, medication, exercising , control on stress and depression , and Kidney dialysis and transplant etc. Taking a managed and balanced diet is an important factor in maintaining the blood glucose levels. A Well-balanced diet includes a healthy and nutritious diet which is low in cholesterol, sugar and fats and includes green leafy vegetables etc. Insulin is the most important drug for people suffering from Type-1 Diabetes. Exercising also keeps the disease in control and increases the body sensitivity to insulin, thereby maintaining blood glucose levels. Oral Medications are there as a means of cure if the above precautions do not serve the purpose. Scientists are in the process of developing a new technique for fighting against the deadly disease, Diabetes. The new technique may completely eliminate the use of insulin shots. The technique is being developed by transforming human stem cells into mice.

With more than fifteen million people in America suffering from diabetes, most of those people rely on daily insulin shots. Lowering blood pressure, blood glucose levels, and high cholesterol levels are essential in controlling diabetes. Diabetic patients who smoke have a greater risk of heart disease, so they are advised to quit smoking to help reduce their risks.

A subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, LifeScan, supplies hospitals and patients with blood glucose monitoring systems, meters, test strips, lancing devices, and software. T+ Medical is an institution that takes data received from LifeScan and transmits the information to a central database. Patients can view this information and monitor their diabetes via their personal computers or their mobile phones. T+ Medical was founded in 2002 to provide technology and services relating to the treatment of diseases such as diabetes. Doctors & patients suffering from diabetes are going to be benefited with the venture between Lifescan & t+ Medical. Combination of two different technologies is generating some lifesaving services to the patients. LifeScan’s One Touch(R) Ultra(R) System is used by t+ to get the blood glucose readings.
