There are four types of totems: Earth, Fire, Water and Air and each require split second decision and sound judgement when used in tricky combat situation or group play. Shamans have also the ability to resurrect themselves and others in their group using the Reincarnation spell every hour of played time; this can also be reduced to 40 minutes as they assign more talent points to that ability. Another great asset to any group and a great ability to have if you solo.

Thanks to the Burning Crusade expansion Shamans is no longer restricted as being a Horde only class. Now the new Alliance race the Draenei, can also play as Shaman which, of all the classes that they have at their disposa,l is one of the best for them to pick thanks to attributes that are unique to this race which makes this class an ideal choice for them.

At end game (level 60 and 70 and beyond) you can specialize as either as an Elemental, Restoration or Enhancement Shaman each having their own specialized abilities. For the Elemental tree the focus is on abilities for high damage casting and as such are regarded as the best choice to power level quickly. On the other hand the Restoration Shamans possess more effective healing abilities making them useful back up casters and, of course, healers.

This condensed world of warcraft guide on shamans only touches the surface as this is a multi talented and complex class to master. It’s a class that is described as jack of all trades and master of none. But this is what makes them fascinating to play, because as you play it you will be able to determine whether you enjoy casting, tanking or healing. And make no mistake, Shamans cab indeed master of all of these abilities as well as any of the more specialized classes making them more expert of all trades and the jack of none.
