One of the fun things about golfing is enjoying the many scenic golf courses around the country or around the world. Golf is about more than just hitting a ball with a stick. You get to be out in nature and see some of the best maintained resort areas there are. While you no doubt thoroughly enjoy golfing at home on that tried and true golf course that you know like your own living room, the adventure of golf is to get out of town and to golf in another town, another state, another country.

Golf is not as much a competition with other golfers as it is you conquering a course. So when you take on the challenge of a new course on a golf trip, you want to play with your best skills working for you. And to be at the top of your game, you have to have the clubs you had made for you in your hands. So naturally when you travel to play golf, your golf clubs have to travel too. So it’s a good idea to think ahead how to get your golf clubs to your destination undamaged so your that investment in good golf clubs is ready for battle when you take on that new course.

The last thing you would even dream of doing is checking your golf clubs unprotected and seeing a check in clerk put those clubs in their bag loose on the belt to go to baggage claim. Securing those delicate golf clubs in a top notch travel bag has to become part of your travel ritual. There are two kinds of golf travel cases so whether you go with a hard shell case or a soft sided one will make the difference in how well your golf clubs will survive the trip. But in general the hard shell case is able to protect your clubs against much more abuse.

It’s easy to think money when buying a travel case because the soft sided golf case is the least expensive way to go. But when you consider that this golf case is all that is standing between destruction and surviving the trip for a very expensive part of your golf game, you may want to reconsider. When it comes to a set of golf clubs that may have cost you top money and that were customized to your game and body type, saving a few dollars on their protection just doesn’t make sense. If you must be economical, better to buy a good reliable hard shell case second hand than to compromise the protection of your clubs.

When it comes to taking your golf clubs on an airplane, the soft sided golf case really won’t cut it. In fact, many airlines will help you out with some insurance for your golf clubs if you protect them with the right kind of case. Buying a golf case is like a lot of purchases for the game because buying the right thing at first will be a decision you will benefit from for years. And that hard shell golf case can protect your clubs in any kind of harsh environment, not just baggage claim.

There are some valid times when the soft sided case is a good choice. When taking your golf clubs on a car trip, the soft sided case is entirely sufficient to protect from scratching in the trunk of the car but it is less bulky and won’t take up as much room as the hard shell golf case. Also soft sided cases mold to the inside of a golf bag which hard cases don’t always do so you can pack the bag and clubs together. And that is an added convenience.

Along with a quality golf case, it’s important you pack your golf clubs for travel so they do not have any opportunity to move around and they are surrounded by soft cloth for the entire trip. For the heads, cover heads are available that can secure to the head and keep that metal well protected so you don’t see any dings or find the heads out of balance when they arrive at the destination. In addition pack towels or even clothing around each club so they are insulated from each other and from the casing and they ride completely secure for the trip.

Taking care of your golf clubs is a priority for you every time you take them out to use them. You do regular cleaning and repair to them all the time to make sure they are in top shape to give you the best game possible every game they play in. So it makes sense you would use that same level of care and precaution for this important part of your game when you take them on the road to conquer foreign ground and add another course to your list of places you enjoyed the fun of playing golf.
