Most fitness equipment nowadays is very expensive. If you have considered buying a treadmill, elliptical trainer, weight lifting machine or an exercise bike you know they can cost up to thousands of dollars. However, most people still want to have a piece of equipment because they think it is the best way for them to get in shape.

There is another option to a brand new machine and that is to buy used exercise equipment. You can still get a good quality exercise machine for half the price of a brand new one. In order to ensure that you are getting a good deal you should research the fitness equipment of your choice in advance so you can quickly identify if it is a good purchase price.

There are two main places where you can buy used fitness equipment. You can buy directly from the individual from the newspaper classifieds or even on eBay. Most of these people decide that they won’t be using their equipment anymore so they might as well make some money from it. However, they may also be the people who use their equipment so much that they are selling this one to purchase a new one. Before you buy from an individual seller be sure to see the equipment first so you know how worn out it is.

Responding to the advertisement in your local newspaper ensures that you can actually go to the person’s house to have a look at the fitness equipment. When you are looking at used equipment make note of a couple things such as; the fitness equipment has all of its parts and there is no rust or worn out spots. Have a little work out on the machine for about 10 minutes to get a feel for it and see if you hear any strange noises.

Most used fitness equipment does not come with a warranty and replacement parts for older models could be difficult to find. Ask the owner where he or she originally purchased the fitness equipment so you will have a contact in case you encounter any problems.

If you are looking online for a piece of equipment then you won’t be able to see the actual equipment. However, you can check out the rating system that is used and find out if other buyers have been happy with the products this seller has sold. Be sure to get plenty of pictures and look for signs of wear and tear.

Remanufactured and refurbished fitness equipment from gyms is also another option when looking to buy used fitness equipment. It is a good option because the only reason the gyms are willing to sell is because the lease is up on the machine and they want to update their equipment on a regular basis. The used fitness equipment can be sold for a lot less than a new unit because the manufacturer restores the equipment and its parts, will test the machine to make sure everything is operating properly and then give it a fresh coat of paint.

However, if you choose to buy your used fitness equipment directly from an individual or a manufacturer, do not forget to research the seller.
