The Luxury and Cost of Having A Home Pool

It’s nearing summer, and in many parts of the U.S., summer is already here. With summer comes lemonade, cool breezes at night, picnics, and swimming. Swimming is especially a favorite of many children.

Many people decide that having a pool of their own at their home is much more private and less costly than buying a yearly membership at the public pool. If you have kids, all of their friends will want to come over every hot and sunny day just to take a fun dip.

The problem with pools? Many people don’t think about the consequences if someone visiting and sharing the pool might get hurt, or worse yet, drown. You may think that if you have liability homeowners insurance, that it will cover this, but you are wrong. You must have a much bigger amount of liability if you want coverage in case something happens.

Even though you may be able to get enough coverage, it isn’t enough to cover the pain of losing someone you love by drowning in your pool. Here are some ways to help prevent the pain and headache this could cause.

1. Having a fence built around your pool will help ensure that you always know who is in it. You should always have a good handle on who is using your pool.

2. Do not let children use the pool without your supervision. Children are not experienced enough even when you think they are. They need someone their to help if something goes wrong.

3. There should be no alcohol allowed near the pool area, and you should not let anyone who has been drinking to use the pool. This is just common sense.

4. If you feel sick, don’t use the pool. Swimming can make you feel worse, and you may have a difficult time getting in and out of the water.

Just as purchasing anything fun and big for your home is something that many people want to do, it is also something that should be taken seriously. Talk to your insurance agent and find out what kind of coverage you need and then take the proper precautions.
