Don’t forget to maintain that Humidor now
Do you only get Cuban cigars one at a time so you you can smoke them right away or do you get them by the case so you can age your Cuban cigars too? If you like to buy them by the case like most people do, than you not only need a humidor, but almost more important is learning how to properly take care of your humidor. A humidor is designed to age your cigars and store them for you for as long as you like. A Cuban cigar can be aged for up to fifteen years. Results like these are only possible if you take care of your humidor too. Trust me, it can be a very rewarding experience.
Now your humidor is designed to store your cigars at ideal temperature. Make sure that which ever one you get, it does this basic job first. The ideal temperature is between 71 to 74 degrees. This is very close to the humidity levels in the country of Cuba. No wonder they make the best cigars in the world! A humidor’s job is to maintain the above temperature and if you take care of that humidor, you can easily have your own stash of well aged Cuban cigars.
After that, make sure that you have separate gauges to make sure your humidor doesn’t go off track. Gauges to monitor the temperature and the humidity. The fancier humidors come with this feature and you can even have a ‘on the go’ remote. So in case the temperature changes, you can fix it immediately even if you are away from your humidor. Once you press the button on this remote, it automatically adjusts the humidity level using the water within the humidor. So you do have various options when it comes to maintaining your Cuban cigars.
Every once in a while you would have to charge your humidor. In fact, it is what keeps the humidor from not doing its job. You can recharge it by adding a solution every couple of months. However, this is a process in itself, and you should refer to the instructions in your humidor, as they are different for all. Last step is to test everything out because you don’t want anything to go wrong. If something does, adjustments are simple and than you should be on your way.
Taking good care of your humidor is just one way of taking good care of your cigars. If you are in the habit of buying fine cigars, make sure that you are able to enjoy each and every one of them. Store your cigars properly and they will last you for quite some time until you are able to kick back and watch them go up in smoke.
