Using Music As A Means of Therapy
Over the past few years, music therapy has been gaining some ground in the medical world. Therapy has been around for centuries, so it is nothing new. What is new is the fact that music can treat communication, stress, anxiety, and behavioral problems.
Music therapy is used for healing certain conditions and problems. It is even used for patients in intensive care. Add to that, the fact it helps you develop certain skills, and you have a winning treatment option.
Music therapy has its roots in ancient Greece, where it was used to help patients deal with mental illness. Today, patients take up music therapy with the goals of better daily management, for their stressful lives.
Benefits of music therapy are uncountable from healing a disease to peace of mind. It is not only used for reducing stress and helps in calmness to mind but also helps those that are suffering from chronic illness. It is known that music can bring back the lost confidence in patient’s life and help them improve self-esteem.
When the mind begins to calm and has a positive outlook on life, it is time to switch up the treatment. This is a sign the treatment is working. Music causes a soothing effects on its patients and helps them to reach in their inner-self.
Music therapy can cause soothing effect and can relax a person’s mind and body. It is for this reason that music therapy is adopted as a secondary treatment along with traditional treatment for a particular disease.
Music therapy reduces stress, pain, anxiety, control blood pressure, respiratory rate and heart rate. In addition to this, music therapy is also known to be effective for those who are suffering from cancer, post surgical problem or Alzheimer’s disease.
Music therapy normally uses headphones and cds to help heal the patient. The patient will also explain the likes and dislikes he or she may have. This is crucial for helping the patient reach the end goal they have in mind.
Slow music can help to reduce your heart rate and in turn, ease your anxiety. This is true even for myself. If you add into this, songs with positive lyrics, you are well on your way to having a positive outlook in life.
Depression is another cause of stress. Depression is said to be caused when serotonin levels are said to be too low. Music therapy is said to increase the level of sertonin which in turn reduces stress.
Music therapy is beneficial from many points of view. It heals your mind, body, and soul. It helps you to relax and soothes your feelings. Not only that, but it doesn’t hurt.
