The Cheapest Auto Insurance Possible

With the economy in the dumps like it’s been lately, we all need to save money wherever we can. It might be time to look for a better deal on our car insurance.

Don’t assume that all insurance agencies are the same and that you will pay the same amount no matter where you go. This attitude couldn’t be further from the truth. The cheapest auto insurance for you is not the cheapest auto insurance for your neighbor, or even you parents!

You can do a lot on your own to make you eligible for the cheapest auto insurance available and that doesn’t mean call every agent in the book for a quote (that part comes later). The best way to get the cheapest auto insurance available is to be a good driver.

Most don’t think too much about a single traffic ticket, but one traffic ticket can raise your auto insurance rates by 10%. If you’re a lead foot, you’d better slow down, pay attention and take care of your driving record or no insurance company is going to sell you cheap insurance. A good driving record is worth hundreds of dollars a year to you.

Again, the only way to get the cheapest auto insurance rate is to demonstrate your safe driving skills. If the insurance company believes you are very low risk and will probably not have an accident, they are happy to give you a cheap insurance rate. But if you start filing claims and getting tickets, they know you could become a big expense to them, so they’re going to boost your insurance rates. It only makes sense.

The catch is that you have to ask for it. So don’t hesitate to call your own company and talk about what discounts are available to someone your age, with your driving record, who carriers you type of insurance in all areas of your life. It also doesn’t hurt to wear your seat belt and have a car alarm. These factors contribute to the cheapest auto insurance rates for you.

Now you know what you can have, so shop around. Every company is different so it pays to obtain quotes from several different companies and see which is best for you. Ask about coverage discounts and how your rate could change with a different deductible. Safe drivers who rarely need to make claims can usually get by with a higher deductible rate. That way both you and the insurance company are betting on your good driving record.

So it’s time to get to work now. A little research on the Internet might save you hundreds of dollars a year and automobile insurance premiums. They’re probably not been a volunteer, the lower rates, unless you remind them to. There’s plenty of information available today, so there’s no excuse for overpaying for your car insurance anymore.
