Making an original kid program
Being a teacher or a camp director is a hard job, especially when trying to come up with something both fun and useful for your kids. If you are not the creative type, this gets even worse because you tend to spend a lot of effort in order to create interesting projects. Don’t lose your hope, you can make yourself more creative with a little work, you just need to find those ways which help you get some interesting ideas.
You don’t need to be perfect
Before starting, you need to forget about perfection. If you think that things only have one solution, you are completely wrong and you make things difficult for yourself. There are numerous crafting options for every kid program you may choose. When it comes to craft programs, there is no wrong program; you verify if it’s suitable for the kid’s age and skill and you can use it.
Calculate your budget before moving further with the craft project, it can prove to be very expensive. If you choose prepackaged kits, like foam picture frames, you might be surprised to find out that supplying a large number of kids with craft kits is rather costly. A cheap way to obtain many craft kits is to buy the same materials which exist in one of your desired craft kit, this way you end up with cheaper craft kits. Plan ahead and prepare your craft kits by already cutting the shapes. This will help the kids when they try to cut their own shapes. You can save a lot of money with these tips.
Crafting is different when it comes to gender
Don’t use the same craft program for both genders, boys may not find a craft program meant for girls very interesting and, of course, girls won’t enjoy activities designed for boys. Choose something colorful and sparkling for girls and let the boys create artifacts or art which involves dinosaurs. Keeping your children happy and concentrated is the main purpose here, so take gender in consideration before choosing a craft program.
An aspect of creativity that the non-creative types don’t realize is that ideas spring from other ideas. That is, if you look over a book or website of craft ideas, maybe none of them will appeal to you, but if you let them, they will spark an idea for a similar project. Use what you can and change what you must in the craft directions. For instance, the craft may have a slogan to be written across the front. If you need to change the slogan to fit your own needs, it’s perfectly OK. For instance, the pictured project might say “Girls rock!” You can change that to “He is the Rock!” if that meets your VBS needs better.
These craft kits don’t require big changes, as long as they work fine; the same thing applies to instructions, modify those only if you really need it. Kids won’t be picky and will appreciate everything. Even if you lack creativity, there is no need to concern about the kids, they are always creative and will make up for any creativity problems you might think to have.
