Birthday Party Ideas for Toddlers
Birthday parties for preschool age children can be challenging. Trying to plan activities and keep these small children entertained is not an easy feat.
Children who are still preschoolers have limitations in what they can do. It is easier for parents to plan birthday parties for older children as it is easier for them to understand activity rules, unlike preschool children. These children also have short attention span.
The key to planning birthday party activities for preschoolers is to keep the activities simple and to keep the children busy.
What makes a party a successful one? In this case, a back up plan is essential. This back up plan comes into action when an activity that you have initially planned doesn’t turn out well. A good back up plan is something like a movie or a coloring table.
If you are planning to have these activities, you need to set up all the activities before the party starts. You need to make sure that you get all the supplies ready. This is essential because you do not want to keep these preschoolers waiting.
Good activities for preschoolers are activities that do not require a lot of explanation. They should also be fun and allow the children to do it by themselves. Preschoolers tend to be very independent so choosing activities that require little parental involvement will be the best choice.
So, what activities can be considered good activities? I suggest that you have activities like bubble blowing, face painting, bean bag toss game and also water balloons. There are several party games which you can use but you should change some of the rules as some of them are quite difficult for preschoolers to understand.
In order to keep the party going, you need to keep the activities flowing. Interval time should be kept short. A sign indicating that the party is not flowing is when the kids are standing around you, waiting around.
if you think that a big group is difficult to handle, you can consider breaking them up into groups. by doing this, it will reduce waiting time and also keep them busy. The backup activity can be used during intervals.
Some activities like blowing bubble or water balloon, you should ensure that all the children have the same number balloons and also ensure that all of them have bubble. You do not want them to be arguing.
Also keep in mind that messy activities, like blowing bubbles or playing with water balloons should be saved for the end of the party. You should also inform parents if you think a child may get wet or messy so they can bring an extra set of clothing should their child need to change.
Preschoolers like to think that they are grownups. They are growing kids and most of them want to be independent therefore, you should include activities that allow them to do so.
