Proper Wedding Etiquette for a Great Ceremony

In order for your wedding day to be perfect, there must be a certain level of organization in the planning of the ceremony. This includes not only the usual items like the cake, the location, and the photography, but also the proper wedding etiquette for the bride, groom, the bridesmaids, the groomsmen, and the guests. Although not following proper wedding etiquette will not necessarily ruin a wedding, it can cause feelings to be hurt and may even damage the traditional goal of the ceremony.

One key thing to remember, if you are a part of the wedding party, ie. a bridesmaid or groomsman, that the day isn’t about you. It’s about the couple being married. Essentially, you are there to support the bride and groom and do what you can to make things easier on them. Causing a scene, upstaging the couple or stealing their thunder is completely unacceptable and any such behavior should be avoided at all costs.

When the actual wedding ceremony is taking place, guests should respect the sanctity of the act. Wedding guests should not act like they are in a situation where certain behaviors are accepted. Guests should be quiet, speaking only when asked to pray or recite something during the ceremony. Using the restroom, falling asleep, or making loud noises should not be done during the actual wedding ceremony. Please remember your manners!

It is quite important for the bride and groom’s parents to follow these basic rules because they are more likely to have attention focused on them as well. If a parent is crying out in happiness during the wedding, this will most certainly cause a distraction that can interrupt the vows and ultimately create a terrible spectacle.

The bridal couple should also keep in mind certain wedding etiquette on the special day. Some tradition should be followed; not only will this keep the ceremony more organized, but it will also ensure that family traditions will be followed as well. Furthermore, the groom and bride should really try to make each guest feel welcomed and comfortable throughout the entire wedding ceremony and reception. Remember, a reception is very similar to a large dinner party, so every effort should be made to make sure guests are comfortable at the event.

Many people need help when it comes to the etiquette of wedding gifts. It is nice when guests actually use the couple’s registry or gift idea list in the selection of wedding gifts. If you prefer to not give an actual physical gift, then money is an acceptable gift option. Just make sure the amount you give is not too exorbitant.
