Puppy Teething Relief
Every puppy will go through a teething stage. Learning some simple puppy teething relief techniques can make this painful time easier on both your puppy and you.
What most people do not realize is that puppies have two teething periods in their lives. The first period comes at about three weeks old when their baby teeth come in. This is what most owners do not realize is happening. Puppies typically do not experience the same pain in period one as they do in the period two. Period two is when their adult teeth come in. This is when the puppies discomfort is realized.
Your puppy will begin to get adult teeth at 6 months of age. The canines come in first, followed by the incisors and finally the pre-molars.
In order to save your shoes and furniture from the gnawing behaviors of your teething puppy, this is when you should seek puppy teething relief! This will also alleviate some of his pain, as well.
You’ll no doubt notice that your dog is suddenly chewing on everything at this time! Neither your clothes nor your furniture is safe. Many people pass it off as being part of puppyhood, but you can be assured that it means he is getting his adult teeth, and gnawing on your stuff is the way he’s trying to alleviate the discomfort.
Gnawing on things is just instinctive for your dog, so unfortunately you can’t do a lot about it. But asking your vet for relieving gel might help your dog feel better. It might even save you some stress about your furniture and shoes, as it may reduce the need to chew. Make sure you try to redirect the chewing behaviors to new chew toys rather than your new shoes! You can hope that he will choose a favorite chew toy and leave other forbidden items alone.
When your puppy is teething, give them cold things to chew on. The cold feels good on the gums, helping to reduce pain and inflammation. Place their chew toys in the freezer overnight so they’ll be ready in the morning. Keeping a supply in the freezer is a great idea, so you always have a cold chew toy to offer when your puppy needs a distraction from teething pains.
A puppy will use your shoes to help get it through its teething period. This is not a pleasant time for your puppy which thankfully does not last all that long. Providing a little bit of puppy teething relief at this stage will help ease the discomfort and may just save your favorite pair of shoes.
