Short Elegant Prom Dresses
It’s a world and it’s a new generation out there looking to make its mark. This year young women in high school are changing the look of proms forever. More and more young women are choosing short elegant dresses for their prom. Thirty percent of all prom dresses this year will sport knee or above lengths.
What Teens really Think
Longer no longer means fancier to most teen women, nowadays formal can mean a short and elegant prom dress, as well as the more traditional long dresses. Many feel more comfortable in shorter dresses and say that elegant but short prom dresses are easier to dance in. And while image is huge at prom, it is equally important to have fun and freedom of movement.
Today’s teens know that there is a perfect dress for every body type. And not every body type looks good in a long dress. Besides, as they say, a prom as a tradition is maintained whether or not you wear a long dress. But there are still limits to how far you can go jeans and flip-flops are frowned upon.
What Parents Think
Parents are unsure what to make of this new trend. Some see the change as positive. It’s a different world, they say, why shouldn’t they be allowed to change it up a bit. Parental defenders of the short and elegant dress’s say that is just plain practical. And besides what’s important is that the prom dresses be simple and elegant, not necessarily whether they are long or short.
Detractors of the short dress on the other hand, say that long dresses are the tradition as opposed to short dresses which some see as tacky. It is exactly the length of the dress and the formality of the event that separates this dance for all the others. Also, they say, long dresses reinforce the concept what is acceptable formal wear and what is not as well as adding a touch of elegance. It is not always up to the students. Marking occasions with special attire is part of the ritual.
So to decide on Long or short dress every one agrees that prom dress need to be simple and dainty to honor the time of passage that the event represents. Although short but elegant prom dresses are becoming more popular, parents & teens need to take all things into consideration as well. A couple are, does the prom have a theme ? Whats the colors? If the prom has a Dated theme for instance, a short dress would not be appropriate. So whatever dress you choose, be careful, because these pictures are forever.
