Setting Goals without Getting Burned Out
Successful people are very driven in life. Anyone who has a drive in life has some sort of direction. That map is provided by goal setting.
They envision what they want out of life and they set themselves out to achieve it. This is done simply by identifying what it is that you want. Once identified, they make the “to do list” a priority.
The key is to not make the list of goals too large. It’s easy to get sidetracked and very easy to feel overwhelmed. Instead of trying to conquer the world overnight, why not take care of the small things first.
Once that goal is achieved, you will start to feel a sense of accomplishment. This can drive you to set another goal. By keeping your goals short term and reasonable, you can eventually start to grow the difficulty of the goal.
Let’s talk about weight loss. If you are so overweight you can barely walk, then you need to make a change. The first thing to realize is that you did not become overweight overnight.
If you want to get back into shape, it’s not going to happen overnight either. If you choose swimming as a means for your goal, don’t expect to join the Olympics. Start off with just five or en laps a day.
After a week or two, you might up to fifty or sixty laps. You probably will have lost a few pounds as well. By keeping this up you can realistically reach you goal over time.
Whatever you do, try to schedule the specific day that you are going to accomplish your goal. If the goal is time sensitive, but too broad, you may find yourself procrastinating. Don’t think about it too much either.
Writing your goals down can be very effective. It helps you to keep them in sight. If you are aware of what you want to accomplish, it will be that much easier.
Once you get the feeling and sense of accomplishment that comes with goal setting, you can move them up a notch. You might allow three months to accomplish a mid term goal. With other goals, you may want to put them on the five year plan.
If you have any drive whatsoever, you can be very successful at goal setting. Follow through is the most important part o the game as well. All you have to do to get started is to write one goal down that can be accomplished in the next 72 hours.
